Al Bernstein Talks McGregor vs. Mayweather, Says It’s Intriguing

Boxing broadcasting legend Al Bernstein is feeling the buzz surrounding Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather.

Bernstein will call the “super fight” along with Mauro Ranallo and Paulie Malignaggi. The fight will air live on Showtime pay-per-view. The bout has been criticized by many as McGregor has never competed in a professional boxing match.

During a recent appearance on MMA Junkie Radio, Bernstein explained why the fight holds his interest:

“This is an intriguing … probably one of the most intriguing situations that I’ve ever been in in 35 years of broadcasting. Because this match is way different than anything obviously. Part of the intrigue of it to me is normally in boxing or MMA when promoters say, ‘Oh, we have a match. We’re pretty sure the public is going to be interested in this. Let’s put it out there and promote it.’ This fight kind of started the reverse.”

Bernstein then said the fight is being made due to popular demand.

“This fight started because people seem to want to see it. The fighters themselves stoked the flames. People stoked the flames. And whatever people think of this match and the veracity of it, at the of the day it’s happening because people seem to want to see it.”

Bob Arum on McGregor-Mayweather: ‘It’s Not a Fight For Christ’s Sake’

Bob Arum doesn’t appear enthusiastic about Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather.

On Aug. 26, McGregor and Mayweather will do battle inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. This will be McGregor’s first professional boxing match. As for Mayweather, he’ll go for a perfect 50-0 record to close his career. Speaking to TMZ Sports, boxing promoter Arum expressed his dismay over the bout (via Bloody Elbow ):

“There’s a limit to the number of suckers (that will pay). If they reduce the ticket price, (they can sell out). It’s not a fight, for Christ’s sake. And three weeks later, De La Hoya’s doing a hell of a fight, (Gennady) Golovkin and (Canelo) Alvarez. That’s a good fight.”

McGregor vs. Mayweather is expected to bring in significant pay-per-view (PPV) numbers. Mayweather’s last “super fight” was against Manny Pacquiao back in May 2015. That bout brought in 4.6 million PPV buys. “Money” recently admitted  that the fight was a disappointment and promises to give fans a show against “Notorious.”

This will easily be McGregor’s biggest payday. While he has hit the million dollar mark for his past Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) bouts, he’s never had an opponent with the drawing history of Mayweather. In fact, he hasn’t competed against anyone who can match his own drawing abilities.

Floyd Mayweather: I Didn’t Like When McGregor Called us Monkeys

Floyd Mayweather is changing his tune on Conor McGregor’s “racial” jokes.

Mayweather is set to do battle against McGregor inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on Aug. 26. McGregor caught fire  for telling “Money” to “dance for me boy” during their tour and saying he was black from the waist down.

What drew the ire of Mayweather was a recent appearance from McGregor on Jimmy Kimmel Live. “Money” explained to ESPN what got him heated (via MMAFighting.com ):

“I just didn’t like when he called us monkeys. I think that was totally disrespect. … He called us monkeys. I didn’t like it. It didn’t push a button to make me jump out of my character and go crazy, but I didn’t like it.”

He then went on to say that he was fighting for “all blacks around the world.”

“I just thought about all our different leaders. Martin Luther King, Malcolm X. They went on the front line for me and my family and all my loved ones. Like I said before, this stuff still goes on. But I’m strong, I’m smart, patient. And come Aug. 26, I’ll be the same person — smart, strong, patient. And the same way he called us monkeys, we’re gonna see if he say that Aug. 26. (This camp is) no different, but this is for a cause. This is for the American people. This is for all the blacks around the world.”

Andre Berto: Conor McGregor Could Stop Floyd Mayweather

Andre Berto isn’t ruling out a wild finish to Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather.

Berto has held boxing titles before and is Mayweather’s last opponent. While Berto gives “Money” his due, he isn’t ready to count out “Notorious.” On Aug. 26, McGregor and Mayweather will do battle inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

During a recent appearance on MMAFighting.com `s “The MMA Hour,” Berto described a situation where McGregor could finish Mayweather:

“I see Conor coming in there really showing that bravado, showing that cockiness and showing that he’s really there to fight. And somewhat trying to steal the stage from Floyd just with his antics and he kind of gets Floyd into a mind-game situation, has him pulling some type of mistakes and [Mayweather] gets caught with a big shot and gets hurt. And [McGregor] could stop him.”

If Mayweather doesn’t fall for those antics, Berto said it’ll be a long night for McGregor.

“Or I see Floyd not playing into any of these antics and being who he is, to stay poised and to stay sharp and let his boxing skills just pick Conor apart. And either late rounds stop Conor just from the accumulation of shots or maybe cuts or just being beat up, or just outboxing him for 12 rounds and just trying to make him look silly.”

Ellerbe: Conor McGregor Has an Awkward Style & Great Timing

The CEO of Mayweather Promotions continues to be impressed by Conor McGregor.

On Aug. 26, McGregor will step inside the boxing ring for the first time in his fighting career. He’ll do battle against Floyd Mayweather inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. “Money” will be looking to end his career with a perfect 50-0 record.

Speaking with Fight Hub TV, Ellerbe said Mayweather’s team is preparing for McGregor’s unique fighting style (via Bloody Elbow ):

“I think he brings a lot of things to the fight. He has an awkward style that is kinda difficult to prepare for, and he’s very strong. He has great timing. I’m impressed. You gotta respect the guy. When he says he’s gonna do something, he’s been doing it. He’s not gonna do that to Floyd Mayweather, but he’s been able to do that.”

Conor McGregor Plans to Destroy ‘Brittle Hands’ Mayweather

Conor McGregor isn’t worried about glove size before he steps inside a boxing ring with Floyd Mayweather.

On Aug. 26, McGregor and Mayweather will meet inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The ” super fight ” is set to air live on Showtime pay-per-view. As part of the agreement, “Notorious” and “Money” will fight with 10 oz. gloves on.

In a recent social media post , Mayweather claimed he was willing to fight with eight ounce gloves on. McGregor responded on Instagram :

“Another handy 12 rounds today. We are prepared to destroy Floyd. Pick whatever size gloves you want as well little man. I fight with 4oz. I don’t give a f*ck about the size of the glove. I am coming sprinting at you with bricks. Know that. Brittle hands.”

When McGregor meets Mayweather, it’ll be his first professional boxing match-up. Meanwhile, Mayweather will be going for a perfect 50-0 record to end his career.

Tickets for Mayweather-McGregor Not Moving As Well As Expected?

It’s the cross-over sporting event of the century, if you choose to buy into the hype. The Floyd Mayweather-Conor McGregor boxing match has been heavily promoted, complete with a whirlwind press tour of three countries in four days earlier this month.

Despite that, it seems fan interest at the box office isn’t what was hoped for. At least, after five days of tickets being on sale, there are plenty of seats left, as first noted by MMA Junkie.

Tickets for the event started at the princely sum of $500 U.S. for the “cheap” seats, and run all the way up to $10,000 for ringside, though with ticket resellers in play, you can go a fair bit higher than ten grand. In comparison, however, MayPac a few years ago saw it’s highest ticket price hover around $25,000. One reseller for Mayweather-McGregor, however, has ticketsas high as $29.136 .

It’s important to note that the cheapest seat you can buy directly off Ticketmaster currently is for $3,500. Seats below that price point are only available via resellers. Still, it’s interesting, and a contradiction to early reports that the event had sold out . MayPac tickets sold out in less than a minute in 2015. However, for that fight, only 500 tickets initially went on sale, with the rest being split between the MGM Grand, the fighter’s camps, networks, ticket brokers and so on.

While the resellers may or may not make a killing with Mayweather-McGreogr, it’s interesting to see tickets still available five days into the sale off Ticketmaster itself, which will put some pressure on resellers (the quicker an event sells out, generally speaking, the better the resale market does).

Conor McGregor Snaps Back in Response to Mike Tyson Comments

Conor McGregor has responded in ice cold fashion to Mike Tyson following the heavyweight champion’s assertions on his chances against Floyd Mayweather  on Aug. 26

McGregor ,who also claimed that his detractors will “eat their words” come the conclusion of his boxing debut against Mayweather next month, compared himself to Tyson’s nemesis Don King in response to the comments.

King, who was accused by the former “Baddest Man on The Planet” and legendary heavyweight knockout artist Tyson of stealing millions of his career earnings while promoting him, has been referred to as a “piece of sh*t” and a “slimy reptilian motherf**ker” over the years.

McGregor, a clear underdog against Mayweather, clearly took offense to Tyson’s comments made earlier this week:

“McGregor is going to get killed in boxing,” Tyson was quoted as saying on Barstool Sports’ Pardon My Take podcast.

“I got mad because I thought they were going to use MMA rules against boxing because that’s what it’s all about: Can the boxer beat the MMA guy?”

Tyson, who repeatedly referred to McGregor as “McConor” claimed that the Irishman would get knocked out against Mayweather:

“McConor [sic] put his dumb a** in a position where he’s gonna get knocked out because this guy’s been doing this all his life since he was a baby.

“McConor [sic] can’t kick and grab and stuff so he won’t stand much of a chance. He took the biggest sucker rules in the history of boxing.”

McGregor, in his typical quick-witted manner, responded to Tyson’s words in kind:

“That’s nice Mike, but you’re looking at the new Don King here, son. Money is mine,” he said.

“You are all going to eat your words for the rest of your days, while I eat lobster for the rest of mine.”

Mike Tyson: McGregor is Going to Get Killed Boxing Mayweather

Mike Tyson is certain that Conor McGregor made a mistake taking a boxing match with Floyd Mayweather.

Tyson is regarded as one of the greatest heavyweight boxers to ever compete. He’s certainly one of the most controversial figures in sports. Two men who aren’t short of controversy are McGregor and Mayweather.

The popularity surrounding both men has made them cash in. On Aug. 26, “Notorious” and “Money” will compete inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The bout will air live on Showtime pay-per-view.

Having won multiple titles in his prime, Tyson knows a thing or two about the sweet science. During a recent appearance on “Pardon My Take, ” the Hall of Famer went off on McGregor’s decision to box (via Sports illustrated ):

“McGregor is going to get killed boxing. I got mad because I thought they were going to use MMA rules against boxing because that’s what it’s all about: Can the boxer beat the MMA guy? McConor put his dumba– in a position where he’s gonna get knocked out because this guy’s been doing this all his life since he was a baby. McGregor can’t kick and grab and stuff so he won’t stand much of a chance. McGregor took the biggest sucker rules in the history of boxing.”

Floyd Mayweather Skeptical of Rumors That McGregor Was KO’d Sparring

Floyd Mayweather doesn’t believe in the rumors surrounding a recent Conor McGregor sparring session.

Rumors recently swirled claiming that “Notorious” was knocked out by Bradley Wheeler while sparring. Wheeler denied the rumors , saying he isn’t even in shape to hit the pads due to an injury.

Former boxing champion Jessie Vargas started the rumors, saying that it’s the story he was told. Speaking to Fight Hype, “Money” showed skepticism towards the hoopla (via Bloody Elbow ):

“My thing is basically like this, if I ain’t seen no footage, I don’t believe it. And me and Jessie Vargas are in communication. We’ve been talking about working with him, signing him back for Mayweather promotions. We’ve been communicating, but everything is just rumors until I see it. I have to visually see it with my own eyes.”
